Iltong Yiban (일통이반)

 

The majority of seafood here is caught by the owner himself. The first Haenam (male divers without an oxygen mask) on Jeju has been honing his deep sea fishing skills for more than 50 years. Haenam is hardly seen on Jeju, since the seafood diving job has always been that of females’.

You can expect to see his expertise as the first haenam through the eatery’s signature dish, “King top shell porridge”, stir-fried king top shells including its entrails with raw rice, then brought to a simmer. As the name suggests, the size of the top shells caught by the owner are much bigger than normal, bringing a stronger flavor to the porridge. You can eat this one as it is, or add some sea urchin roe. That ocean fresh flavor will be doubled, though you need to order the sea urchin roe separately.

Another delicacy here is natural mussel soup, also caught by the owner at Chujado Island. Chujado is within an hour’s distance from Jeju by ferry. He travels out to the island often for its natural mussels. Some moss and the sheer size of the mussels will definitely tell you they are straight from nature!
