Seopji Haenyeoeuijip (섭지해녀의집)
Unlike other ‘Haenyoeuijip’s which usually offer a single dish of ‘Abalone porridge’, this restaurant has many more options to choose from. Pippi will say positively its signature dish is absolutely ‘Gingyi Juk’ (also called 'Gaengjuk'), rather than abalone porridge. Gingyi Juk has long been a gourmet meal on Jeju Island. 'Gingyi' means ‘little crab’ in Jeju dialect. The soup is made by pounding crab in a stone mortar, then adding water to make a thick crab juice before straining it. It is then boiled slowly and the crab juice is stirred in after thoroughly stir-frying rice with sesame oil. This calcium-rich soup has helped Haenyeo, or female divers of Jeju, strengthen their leg muscles. Even these days, even local travelers are not familiar with this porridge!!
Other delicacies of this eatery are seafood ramyeon and seafood noodle soup. Springy noodles, young traveler’s all-time favorite, are served with a savory broth made from an abundance seafood including abalone, prawns and mussels.
After lunch, take a gentle stroll to Seopjikoji Hill, one of musts for first-time visitors. Yellow canola flowers always tempt you in spring, while the cool sea breeze refreshes you in summer. See more Seafood Restaurants
